Objective: To provide the interpreters with knowledge, understanding, and interpretation methods that will help students to properly interpret during the divorce process. We will discuss the ethics involved with working with clients who do not have a lawyer to represent them, as well as how to adhere to the ethical code during mediations. The interpreters will learn common vocabulary, adjectives, and acronyms involved. We’ll also discuss when and how to switch from consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.

Teaching Methods:
1) Group Discussion on Ethical Code During Mediation and With Pro SE Clients
2) Friendly Competition in Speed Interpreting (Making sure we have key elements, dates, streets, numbers, names)
3) Financial Terms used for various languages (list of words given to interpret)
4) Roleplay scenario on how to interpret when emotions are high.
5) Group activity to be done in breakout rooms
